IN-STORE SHARPENING

Visit our Houston shop for professional, in-house sharpening. Whether you’re bringing in a single knife or a full set, our team will assess your blades and restore them with care and precision.

WALK-INS ARE WELCOME

Our Sharpening Methods

Every blade brought in or mailed to us for sharpening is unique. First, our bladesmith will quickly assess your knife, its condition, and its needs. Next, we’ll repair any tip damage, nicks, or chips.

For most knives, we then sharpen the knife or other blade on our belt grinders with a 120-grit belt, then a 600 to 800-grit belt. Once we have refined the edge, we’ll move to our Japanese water stone and finish the process on a leather strop.

MAIL IN SHARPENING

Not local? Our mail-in sharpening service makes it easy to maintain
your knives from anywhere in the United States.

Ship your blades to us, and we’ll sharpen, inspect, and return them ready to perform.

1. PREPARE YOUR BLADES

Securely package your knives or tools for safe shipping, by wrapping them tightly in magazine paper or taped into cardboard. Use a generous amount of packing materials and ensure the package is packed tight to keep the knives as still as possible during transport.

The tighter the better, keeping your knives from moving during transportation is crucial for safety and loss. If you shake your package and there’s a rattle, it’s probably not secure enough.

2. SEND THEM IN

Ship your package to our Houston shop using your preferred carrier. Inside your package, please provide:

  • A prepaid return shipping label addressed to yourself. This will make the return shipping process much faster.
  • Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, email address, how many knives you have mailed in, and any special instructions you may have for your knives.
  • Send your package to: 410 Harvard Street, Houston, Texas 77007

3. WE INSPECT & PROVIDE A QUOTE

Our team will assess each knife or other blade for any needed repairs before sharpening, then provide the quote (or any adjustments to a previous quote) for your confirmation.

  • Most chips and broken tips are covered in most sharpening prices
  • We do not bend knives straight, most bent tips will be reground into a tip with preservation of edge and steel in mind.
  • Rust removal is not included in sharpening prices
  • Pocket knife, steak knife and Cutco serrations we do not sharpen

Usual pricing is as follows:

  • Any knife under 6 inches: $15
  • Any knife 6 inches and over: $20
  • Straight Razors:$45 (at least a 24 hour period for completion)
  • Re serrations or scallops: $35 (most bread knives and some smaller serrated knives)
  • If there is any change to any prices you will be contacted and informed for confirmation before payment invoice is sent.

5. SHAPRENING

  • We do sharpening daily for both culinary professionals and at home chefs & cooks and take no more than an hour for most cases.
  • We will start by addressing any damage (nicks, chips, broken & bent tips)
  • We will start on our belt sanders designed for sharpening and knife making on a used 120 grit belt, this cleans up most damage, aligns the edge evenly and creates a uniform burr
  • We will then go to a 600-800 grit belt which refines the burr and slightly polishes the edge.
  • After the belts we will get on our 4,000 grit Japanese water stone to give your knife a high quality edge.
  • A couple of finishing passes on our leather strop right after and we’re done.

6. SHIPPING

  • Once sharpening is complete we will tightly re wrap your knives and package them up to send back to you.
  • If you provided a prepaid return label we will use the same package you sent your knives in
  • If you did not provide a prepaid return label, additional shipping charges will be included on your payment invoice.
  • Tracking information will be emailed to you once your knives are done.

Sharpening FAQ's

How do I mail in my knife to be sharpened?

See the process outlined above. Ensure you package your blades tightly, include your contact information, and send your package with a prepaid return label addressed to yourself.

How long does it take you to sharpen a knife or other blade?

One knife usually takes 5-10 minutes, depending on the amount of damage.

What's the turnaround time if I mail in my knife to be sharpened?

Once your knives arrive, they'll be sharpened that day and sent out either that same day or the next day we are in the shop.

Why can't you get every blade "razor sharp"?

In short, not everything is a razor. That doesn't mean we can't get a knife to cut the way it should or even shave hair, which is what most people refer to as “razor sharp.” But this isn’t the ideal type of edge for every knife. Just like putting all-terrain tires on a sports car is possible doesn’t mean it's a great idea.

Do you sharpen salon shears and hair clipper blades?

No, we do not have the proper equipment to sharpen hairstyling tools.

Do you teach knife-sharpening classes?

No, we currently do not offer a sharpening class. However, it’s something we are considering doing again. Please email us, and let us know that you are interested.

What dulls a knife the fastest?

Improper care, use, and storage.

As it worth getting my inexpensive knives professionally sharpened?

If you enjoy the knife and like the way it performs it is.
