ABOUT SERENITY KNIVES

Houston’s Knife Shop & Sharpening Experts

Based in Houston, TX, In The Heights

Serenity Knives is a Houston-based knife shop dedicated to craftsmanship, performance, and the care of every blade we touch. Founded on a passion for bladesmithing and restoration, we bring together custom knife making, expert sharpening, and a curated selection of premium knives for chefs, collectors, and outdoor enthusiasts.

From our shop in Houston, we serve customers locally and across the United States. Whether you’re visiting in person, shopping online, or mailing in your knives for service, our goal is simple: to help every blade perform at its best.

WHY SERENITY?

The name Serenity comes from the state of focus and calm found in the craft.

When founder Russell Montgomery began working with steel in 2010, he discovered that the process of forging, grinding, and shaping knives created a sense of deep meditation; hours would pass in a quiet, absorbing rhythm of work. It became a creative escape from a previous career and a space where hands-on craftsmanship brought clarity and balance.

For him, it wasn’t just about making knives; it was about entering a state of flow.

That same sense of focus carries through the work today. Across our team of makers, each blade – whether designed, sharpened, or restored – is approached with full attention and a commitment to precision.

And for the people who use these tools, that idea extends outward.
Chefs, makers, and outdoor enthusiasts rely on their knives to stay in their own rhythm. When a blade performs properly, it disappears into the task – supporting a seamless, focused experience. When it doesn’t, it interrupts it.

Serenity reflects both sides of that experience: the calm found in the making, and the ease found in a tool that performs exactly as it should.

WHAT WE MAKE

We create two types of handcrafted Serenity knives – custom knives and our in-stock line that you can purchase in our Houston showroom or online store. Both types are built for performance, balance, and longevity. The difference? Our in-stock knives embody the vision and artistry of our bladesmiths, while custom knives embody YOUR vision and selections.

Every knife we craft (whether custom or in-stock) is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted to meet the demands of professional chefs, home cooks, outdoor enthusiasts, and collectors – tools made to be used, trusted, and passed down.

WHAT WE SELL

Our shop in Houston (and our online knife store) features a curated selection of premium knives from world-renowned makers, alongside essential tools and accessories. From high-performance kitchen knives to everyday carry pieces and collector-grade blades, every item is chosen for its quality, reliability, and design.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE

We offer expert sharpening, repair, restoration, and precision laser engraving. From maintaining a trusted blade to restoring worn tools – or engraving knives, tools, and other metal items – our services are designed to extend performance, preserve craftsmanship, and add lasting detail.

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY

Made by Hand.

Signed by the Maker.

Every knife we create carries more than the Serenity name.

Each of our makers has their own mark, so when you own a Serenity knife, you know exactly who crafted it. It’s a connection to the hands behind the work, and a story that stays with the blade for years to come.

WHO WE ARE

We’re craftsmen, problem-solvers, and knife enthusiasts who genuinely care about the tools people rely on every day. Our team brings deep knowledge and experience – but just as important, we’re approachable, work with integrity, and are here to help.

Whether you’re a professional chef or picking up your first quality knife, you’ll find a team that’s as invested in your tools as you are.

RUSSELL Montgomery

Russell Montgomery started Serenity Knives in January 2010. After developing a passion for collecting and using knives for most of his life, he sought out Master Smith Murray Carter to train with him. Over the next 2 years, Russell studied the traditional Japanese way of bladesmithing. After honing those skills, he took several workshops with the American Bladesmith Society and learned the Appalachian Mountain way of doing things. He now incorporates a balanced combination of these two very divergent techniques and design methodologies to build the best knives he can. Russell is currently focused on getting the Serenity Knives Mid-Tech Line of knives into the showroom and on the market.
